There was lots of excitement at Boiler House restaurant on Thursday August 9th 2012 as some of Toronto’s most eligible singles hobnobbed in this historic venue. Originally designed to rock the patio, the evening’s Screwed in the Distillery singles event moved inside when thunderheads appeared overhead late in the afternoon.
While most folks paid $20 to get in the door, and they could double their order for $35, and that price included some snazzy door prizes, welcome cocktail, and appetizers. Seriously there was exotic flavoured popcorn bags and gift certificates for sinfully sensual things.
Hosted by Shanny from Shanny in the City, and Gary from Eligible Social Club and OMG the Odie Lu Media Group, the three organizations filled the event to capacity.
The best singles events are the ones that are full to capacity with interesting people and this occasion was no exception. There were lawyers and designers, IT specialists and lots of people running their own businesses. The event was catered and there was plenty of food.
Shanny has a great caterer. Heaps of food was laid out on the table and the piles contained broccoli cheese sausages and fruits and lots of breads.

But that wasn’t what brought the people in…

As soon as people walked through the door they were confronted with a bucket of nuts and bolts and that hardware was akin to the main attraction.
Upon arrival each guest was given either a nut or a bolt; the men were given bolts. There were eight different sizes. The challenge was to match them up and claim the reward of two free drinks – screwdrivers. At the end of the night almost all of the free drinks were taken and almost everyone was matched up .

Just inside the front gate of the Distillery District is one of the best restaurants in Toronto.

The Mill St Brew Pub actually has two patios, and on hot summer days there’s usually a waiting list to get a spot on either of them! You must call ahead here, but that won’t help sun worshipers because they don’t take reservations for the patio. Follow the restaurant on Twitter
This is the biggest and perhaps the best patio in the Distillery District, and its connected to one of the best seafood restaurants in Toronto. If you ever hear of a Hollywood movie star being spotted at the Distillery District, nine times out of ten the pictures will show them dining in Pure Spirits. It has that rep. And this patio has the most capacity – there are over three dozen tables outside under umbrellas. This restaurant is very active on Twitter and you can follow along

Today the Distillery is home to a thriving Arts Community and Tech Community and so it plays host to a wide variety of educational, motivational and inspirational public events.
